Thank you for posting my Baby Boomer survey, Yank. Those of us who are running or building online businesses would do well to pay attention to this large and influential demographic.

Thanks for your kind words. I try to write positive things about current events that seem so wrong. Please keep up the comments. Your views are helpful because they help me understand how my readers are thinking.

Thanks again.

Scary but true. Sometimes we need a kick in the butt to get us going. BTW - Linkedin was added to the About.com Top 10 Employment site list with 2 other sites but linkedin is still the only social netwoking site on the list. 3 newest job sites on top list are:

www.linkedin.com (professional networking)
www.indeed.com (aggregated job listings)
www.realmatch.com (matches you to the perfect job)

Good luck to all those searching for jobs.

Thanks for your ideas. They are just as extreme as mine. If our political system worked as it should we might expect somebody to figure a compromise which would be beneficial to all. Unfortunately, I'm not going to hold my breath. Our political system is locked up and unlikely to change anything.

I like what I heard said about politics by a recent radio guest. "Politics is about the legal redistribution of wealth."

I am turned off by "fear based" scarcity mentality. The political machines know this is the cheapest way to "sell" thier agenda.

As individuals in a culture we tend to go the easiest route and become victims by not becoming informed of what is happening in our society from a 10,000 view point.

The fact is we have one planet and we need to make do with that. Our capitalistic machine has become so well honed that we no longer have need a large workforce making unemployment a way of life for many who would like to work.

During the good times we were able to put into place so many good programs (entitlements) to help the infirmed, aging, unemployed, etc but these programs were founded off of robust growing economies.

Global warming, water shortages, power shortages, stagnates economies. More importantly we have regulated capitalism to the point is truly stagnates the potential for "mom and pop" businesses.

A small business must meet all safety requirements of both personnel and consumers. This in not a bad thing but to a large company they know that the small time guy does not the wear with all to sustain compliance.

We have litigated the small time business out of business. where did all the auto manufacturers go. Do we have better cars? Probably but at what cost. Is it better to be statiscally slightly less safe and have jobs or is better that we lose those jobs to save a life or two.

We place such a premium of "life" but we have strangled the "joy" right out of that by fear and scarcity mongers. Gone are the days when you could teach your child to drive in a vacant lot as no one wants to take the chance they will be sued by letting you. Gone are the diving boards from swimming pools. Gone are the teeter totters and slides.

In most places children are not allowed to climb trees. We are no longer allowed to volunteer to fight a forest fire as we are not trained and might get hurt. Remember mankind has survived with out medicine, litigation, training, insurance, for better part of 50,000 years.

We are taught that germs are bad. That we will get sick. We are taught that are drinking water is unsafe to drink, that we are exposing ourselves to toxins only to find that a pill has been made to help us.

I remember when I could see a great movie on TV. I remember when HBO came out there was no advertising and it was all movies. Gone. Now I pay $100 or more a month for Satellite TV, with the bulk of the stations infomercials, shopping stations, of movie stations that have media banners running across the bottom of hte movie I am watching. I call for service and go through a litany of menus only to be placed in queue listening to more spam (whatever happend to music?).

Don't get me wrong there is a lot of good that has been done but we are so far past this now but we must equal the playing field for small start up businesses to compete with big business. Free legal advice, free safety consultants and assistance, etc.

But what is really needs to change is our panicky fear of death. That life is worth the whatever it takes to survive even if it means the destruction of the quality of life for millions who willingly go along with the rhetoric of fear.

I say get rid of insurance and make suing someone illegal period.

If someone really does something intentionally agregious to you then they should go to jail... for a long time.

Businesses cannot stay in business by making crap.
